One setting cannot fix a whole dive

Swim out of a shadow and the water changes what it takes from you. One correction stretched across the clip gets the middle right and the ends wrong, so Bring Back Red reads every single frame and answers each one on its own. Scrub it and you are watching the finished film, not an impression of it. What you approve is what you get.

Nothing gets smaller on the way out

Resolution is not something this correction has an opinion about. 4K stays 4K, 8K stays 8K, 120 fps stays 120 fps, and your HDR and your audio arrive exactly as they left. Nothing is downscaled to make the maths easier, and a format we have not put through the whole pipeline is refused up front rather than handed back quietly wrong.

A dropped export never costs you the dive

A call, a flat battery, a full disk: the job comes back exactly where it was and finishes. Nothing is marked done until the finished file has been opened again and checked, so “exported” always means the file is really there and really right.

Your original is never the file being edited

Every export is a new copy. What your camera wrote is bit-for-bit what it was before, after any number of passes, and nothing in the video path writes to it. You are never one tap away from losing the only version you have.

Common questions about underwater video color

Why does underwater video lose its color?
Water absorbs long wavelengths first, so red disappears before orange and yellow, usually within the first few meters of water between the camera and the subject. It is the distance the light travels through water that decides the loss, not how deep you are.
Can you correct underwater video on a phone?
Yes. Bring Back Red corrects underwater video on the iPhone itself, with no upload and no desktop step. The correction is measured per frame, so a clip that swims from shade into open water is corrected differently at its start and at its end.
Does correcting 4K or 8K video reduce its quality?
No. Resolution is not a parameter of the correction, so 4K and 8K are corrected the same way 1080p is, and frame rate, bit depth, HDR intent and audio all come through the export rather than being re-encoded down. Nothing is downscaled to make the work cheaper.
Does it work with footage from an action camera?
Yes. An action camera clip is treated exactly like iPhone video, in H.264, HEVC or ProRes, MOV or MP4, at any resolution up to 8K. Anything outside that is refused before processing rather than exported wrong.
Does it change my original video file?
No. Every export writes a new copy, and the file your camera wrote is bit-for-bit what it was before, after any number of passes. Nothing in the video path writes to it.
